5-MTHF - A better Folate
Jovie is proud to offer Methylfolate, or 5-MTHF for short, as the better folate choice in our products (unfortunately, regulation is not always up to date and hence the ingredient has not been approved in all products, for example, it cannot be used in infant formula yet).
The 5-MTHF used In Jovie Goat Is Quatrefolic™, a Registered Trademark of Gnosis S.p.A., U.S. Patent No. 7,947,662.
This superior new type of folate ingredient is easily incorporated into cellular functioning in the body, much better than folic acid is.
The reason? Methylfolate is already in its biologically active form. Folic acid, on the other hand, is not biologically active and needs to first be converted into the metabolically active form through a multi-steps process where the enzyme called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) has a key role. Those with a genetic mutation in their MTHFR enzyme have a slower enzyme speed (by 40-70%), meaning less active folate is available for their body to use. Less than half of the population has adequately functioning MTHFR enzymes.
Folate is well known for preventing neural tube defects (NTDs) in pregnancy. It also helps tissues grow and cells work. It works with vitamin B12 and vitamin C to help the body break down, use, and create new proteins. Folate is also needed to form red blood cells. It helps produce DNA, the building block of the human body, which carries genetic information. Folate is also required for enhancing mood.
Jovie is proud to offer 5-MTHF as the better folate choice!
Chelated Minerals – Highly absorbable minerals
Minerals are critical to the body’s well-being. In their natural inorganic form, minerals are often poorly absorbed by the body across the intestinal wall. This is why the human body attempts to convert the mineral to an organic or biological compound. This process is known as chelation. However, this natural chelation process is complicated and often not optimally functional, which could result in lower mineral absorption.
Jovie has chosen a unique kind of Iron and Zinc, which are already chelated, whereas other minerals are not. These special minerals offer better bioavailability, meaning they are easily absorbed and assimilated into the cells and tissues of the body – especially compared with minerals that are not chelated. Iron and zinc are both notoriously difficult minerals to absorb and are often found to be deficient in many individuals. Where possible, Jovie formulates with iron bisglycinate and zinc bisglycinate, which are both in the chelated forms for maximum bioavailability.
Chelated Iron
Iron bisglycinate’s chelated structure allows the body’s iron stores to self-regulate and control how much iron is absorbed, so it doesn’t absorb too much or too little. For example, a body that is iron deficient may absorb up to 90% of the iron from this source, while a body that is not deficient may absorb only the amount needed to offset losses in metabolism.
Studies have found fewer instances of gastrointestinal upset with iron bisglycinate than with ferrous sulfate, which is typically associated with constipation and/or nausea. This is a huge advantage for pregnant women, who can take prenatal without worrying that the iron will cause nausea and/or constipation.
Typical iron supplements, when dissolved in the stomach, become charged ions that can block absorption of other nutrients such as calcium, vitamin E, and vitamin C. Because iron bisglycinate is ionically neutral (carrying no electrical charge), it does not block absorption of other nutrients in our Jovie products.
Chelated Zinc
Zinc bisglycinate is a highly absorbable type of zinc. Its chelated structure allows the body’s zinc stores to reach its desired level.
Zinc is a trace mineral essential for proper growth, development and reproduction, as well as numerous body processes, from eye health to the regulation of appetite, taste and smell. It’s required for the proper function of approximately 300 enzymes! Zinc is an important antioxidant, meaning it helps protect healthy cells from the potentially damaging effects of free radicals. Zinc also supports healthy protein and DNA synthesis and is involved in healthy insulin production.
Many reasons for Jovie to choose chelated zinc!
